Job Opening: Director of Religious Education

Director of Religious Education

 

The UU Church of Meadville seeks a Director of Religious Education. This is a part-time (about 15 hours per week) position, beginning August 1. 

 

The DRE is responsible for coordinating a Religious Education program that nurtures and supports the faith development of our congregation’s children, youth (up to age 18) and adults.  Supervised by the Minister, the DRE works with the RE Committee and reports to the Parish Board.

 

A priority in the position will be to assist the Board, the RE Committee, and the congregation in re-imagining, re-envisioning, and re-energizing the religious education program.

 

Supported by the RE Committee, the DRE also has responsibility for

  • Recruiting, orienting, training, and supporting volunteers

  • Registration, record keeping, and supplies

  • Working with the minister on intergenerational and family worship

  • Communicating with parents, the congregation, and staff

  • Meeting regularly with the RE Committee and the minister

  • Supervising the Nursery care for infants and toddlers

  • Supervising the church youth group

  • His/Her own professional development, including attendance at district and area religious education conferences, workshops, and trainings (an amount is budgeted for professional expenses)

 

The church is looking for applicants with

  • a degree in a field related to education or human services, or relevant experience;

  • a passion for Unitarian Universalism, and an interest in faith development;

  • relational, organizational, administrative, and volunteer management skills; 

  • the ability to connect with people of all ages, especially children, youth, and parents
