Teachers for 2006-2007: Deb Lehman, Laurie Parendes (fall) and Mary-Lib Whitney (spring)

In the fall the middle school children will use the Traditions With a Wink curriculum written by Kate Tweedie Erslev. This curriculum focuses on teaching Unitarian Universalist traditions. The children learn about our UU community, UU services of celebration and memory, the UU tradition of good works, UU music and hymns, UU purposes and principles, our place within science and religion, and our UU roots in Judeo-Christian culture. In the spring this group will be using the curriculum Holidays and Holy Days written by Charlene Brotman, Barbara Marshman, and Ann Fields. Several goals of this curriculum are for students to become aware of values that Unitarian Universalists find important, to learn that celebrating is part of a universal response to life, to honor the diversity and particularity of cultural tradition and the commonality of the human condition, to develop an interest in and an understanding of the ethnic traditions of our world neighbors, to "meet" some of the heroes and heroines of our liberal tradition, to become acquainted with a few great religious events, stories, myths, and persons, and to have opportunities for expressions of social concern.
